Each caterpillar hs it's own host plant. The Monarch's host plant is milk weed.  There are many kinds of milk weed plant, but in Hawaii the most popular milk weed plant is the Crown Flower. Milkweed is the only plant that they will eat.

 

The butterflies also enjoy  sipping nectar from this flower.

These Monarchs are sipping nectar from Kalanchoe flowers in my butterfly garden.
